One approach is to watch and wait to see if small fibroids will disappear by themselves, another is to take medication, and the third approach is surgery. Many fibroids do not cause significant problems and are not malignant and for that reason sufferers may prefer to find natural treatments for these fibroids.

Hormonal imbalance is a major cause of fibroid growth. Restoring the balance of hormones can be helpful in minimizing fibroid symptoms and their growth. This approach is most effective when combined with appropriate changes in diet and lifestyle.

Diet

A poor diet can elevate estrogen levels which are a trigger for fibroids. Diets that are rich in saturated fats, alcohol and sugar can overwork the liver. This prevents the liver from breaking down hormones efficiently.

A low-fat, high fiber diet is recommended. Many experts believe that a reduction in the xenoestrogens in the daily diet is helpful in fibroid treatment. Xenoestrogens are found in the pesticides sprayed on fruit and vegetables and in many milk and meat products.

It is not healthy to eliminate any of the food groups entirely from the daily diet. However it is recommended that fibroid sufferers follow a healing diet that aims to reduce the intake of estrogen heavy foods.

Weight

Estrogens are stored in body fat, so excess weight encourages an imbalance between estrogen and progesterone. However, care should be taken not to diet excessively as this can also cause hormone imbalance.

Stress Reduction

Increasing exercise and reducing stress levels can be helpful for fibroids. There is anecdotal evidence that tackling relationship problems and stress triggers impacts positively on health issues.

Complementary Medicine

Many complementary medicine techniques aim to restore balance to the body. Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that blood and energy flow needs to be unblocked in the treatment of fibroids. Herbal medicines are used to treat the root cause of the problems.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a common method of alternative medicine that is used in fibroid treatment. Small needles are placed in the body at specific points to increase circulation and relieve fibroid masses. Generally the benefits of acupuncture for fibroids are slower to emerge than with conventional medicine.

Vitamins

Taking supplementary B vitamins that contain magnesium, calcium and potassium is said to reduce bloating and cramping. Vitamins A, C and E are also thought to be helpful. They can be found in foods such as liver, kidney, citrus fruits, leafy vegetables, wheat germ, nuts and seeds.

In conclusion, there are no proven natural "cures" for fibroids. However many women find symptom relief within the suggestions of alternative medicines.

Nature Uterine Fibroids Treatment

Nature uterine fibroids therapy is the only way to ensure that you free yourself from this condition for very good. There’re many alternatives to do it.

This can be your advantages if you know every possible option available today, so you can compare them, and then starting with the one that is suitable with your body and your condition.

Uterine arteries are the vessels that supply blood to the uterus and fibroids. When the catheter is in its position, then small particles are injected, and block the tiny vessels to the fibroids. These blockages will stop the blood supply and make the fibroids shrink and die.

Women like this less invasive approach because it only needs small cut, local anesthetic, shorter time to recover, and cause minimal blood loss. Based on some studies, 90% of the patients get significant or complete relief from the symptoms, especially for someone with bulk-related symptoms such as pelvic pain or pressure and heavy bleeding. It’s also very rare case after the uterine artery embolization, the fibroid re-grows or the new one grows, although there’s a possibility.

Other than all those advantages, there’re some risks that you need to know such as the possibility of damage on the blood vessels, infection, entering your menopause early (right after the procedure), especially for women older than 45 years old, and influencing your fertility.

However, this uterine artery embolization is not recommended for these situations:

No fibroid symptoms.

Having a kidney problem.

Planning to have children.

Cancer is present.

There’s infection and inflammation on the pelvic region.

Whether or not this method’s suitable for you and your fibroid condition, it’s recommended that you need to consult this approach with a professional or your doctor for further examination.

Learn More about How to Shrink Uterine Fibroids

Treatment for Uterine Fibroids

The decision to actively treat fibroids can only be made on an individual basis. Most women require no treatment at all. If the tumors are small and cause no problems, most physicians will simply schedule an examination every six months to make sure the fibroids aren't growing.

Reasons for Treatment of Uterine Fibroids

Your doctor may decide to treat fibroids if they start growing rapidly, cause serious pain or discomfort, or may interfere with your ability to become pregnant. In the following situations, physicians are likely to proceed more aggressively:

Bleeding. This is often the primary indication for surgery particularly if the woman is experiencing an extremely heavy flow during her menstrual period and notices blood clots. Persistent bleeding greatly reduces the amount of iron in the body, producing anemia that does not respond well to treatment.

Sudden enlargement of fibroids. Rapid growth of fibroids at any age is cause for concern, but this is particularly so after menopause, when the tumors should be shrinking due to decreased estrogen production. The doctor must make sure that not one of the tumors is malignant. Although almost all fibroids are benign, a malignant tumor could be hidden among them.

It is important to note that malignancy is not the only explanation for sudden enlargement of fibroids. This often happens during pregnancy. In women who are not pregnant, bleeding and deterioration inside the tumor are commonly at fault.

Pain, pressure and other discomfort. If the symptoms caused by fibroids become intolerable, the fibroids must be treated. Each woman must decide for herself whether she has reached this stage.

If the fibroids interfere with other organ systems, surgery may clearly be necessary. For example, fibroid tumors that encroach on the urinary system may cause so much pressure and crowding that a woman is almost unable to urinate.

Location of the tumors. Sometimes fibroids must be removed because their location is likely to cause serious problems sooner or later, as with tumors that obscure the ovaries. In addition, certain types of fibroids resemble ovarian tumors—a fact of particular concern for women over the age of 40, when the danger of ovarian tumors increases.

Surgery

When the problems caused by fibroids are severe enough to require treatment, it may be necessary to remove not only the tumors, but also the uterus. The type of surgery performed depends on the woman's age, the type of symptoms she is experiencing, and whether she plans to have children in the future. Following are descriptions of two forms of surgery—myomectomy and hysterectomy.

Myomectomy. Understandably, the prospect of any type of gynecologic surgery is upsetting to a woman who hopes to become pregnant. Yet continued presence of fibroids may in itself make pregnancy impossible. For women faced with this dilemma, a myomectomy is the procedure of choice.

A myomectomy is the surgical removal of each tumor separately without damaging or disturbing the uterus. The procedure is successful in almost all women who choose to have it performed. Generally, it doesn't matter how numerous or how big the fibroids are or where they are located.

When performing a myomectomy, the surgeon tries to remove as many tumors as possible while making as few surgical cuts as possible. It is sometimes feasible to remove certain tumors through the vagina, but in most cases the surgeon has to make an abdominal incision. During the operation, the surgeon closes up the spaces in the uterine lining where the fibroids used to be so that blood will not collect there afterward.

The possibility of blood loss is a major concern during surgery, but there are procedures and drugs that allow surgeons to limit bleeding during and after the operation. Because the fibroids are removed one at a time, surgery can take several hours—much longer than removal of the entire uterus.

It is important to remember that women who have had fibroids once are likely to have them again. The likelihood of a recurrence depends on a woman's age, race, and whether most of her tumors were removed during the procedure. Estimates vary, but one quarter to half of the women who have a myomectomy can expect to eventually develop additional tumors.

While a second—or even a third—myomectomy is an option if the tumors return, multiple myomectomies can lead to problems. The walls of the uterus, for example, can stick together due to scarring. Or the bowel may become blocked. Unfortunately, many, if not most, of the women who develop additional fibroids eventually have to undergo a hysterectomy.

Despite these possible drawbacks, the improved outlook for preserving a woman's fertility makes myomectomy an increasingly popular choice for younger patients.

Hysterectomy. When fibroids cause severe complications, a hysterectomy, or removal of the uterus, will probably be necessary. Removing the uterus effectively removes the fibroids, because most of these tumors are attached to the uterus. Hysterectomy is generally considered the procedure of choice when:

A woman who has completed her family and whose uterus has grown to the size that would accommodate a 12-week old fetus suffers from severe symptoms

There are extensive or especially large tumors

The bleeding caused by fibroids is debilitating

The fibroids are creating problems with other organs in the body

Because a hysterectomy leaves the ovaries intact, a woman does not automatically face menopause after the operation. The decision to preserve or remove a woman's ovaries generally depends on her age at the time of surgery. The current practice is to preserve normal and healthy ovaries in women younger than 40 to 45 years of age.

There has been much criticism of unnecessary hysterectomies; and fibroids are the justification in an estimated 30 percent of cases. Limiting this surgery to older women who do not plan to become pregnant and who have serious symptoms should naturally reduce the number of hysterectomies performed.

Other Options

Physicians are starting to evaluate ways to treat fibroid tumors without surgery. A few have begun using lasers to remove them or reduce the size of fibroid tumors. Several scientific studies are underway to test a new drug treatment that shrinks fibroids. Most of the women who have used the drug had their fibroids shrink to half their starting size. The drug is leuprolide acetate (Lupron), a synthetic form of the naturally occurring substance known as gonadotropin-releasing hormone (also called GnRH). Click here to learn natural healing uterine fibroids.

One drawback is that the drug has to be taken regularly. Another drawback is that women have to inject themselves or use a nasal spray. Furthermore, once treatment stops, the tumors grow back rapidly.

The drug does shrink the fibroids, however, and may help women who are trying to become pregnant or plan to have surgery. The treatment might also be especially useful for women who are nearing menopause—when the fibroids will shrink on their own. It will effectively delay surgery until it becomes unnecessary. Studies of the dru g's side effects and long-term consequences are still continuing.

Learn more about treatment of Uuterine fibroids.

Why Fibroid Tumors Develop

Even though fibroid tumors are common, no one is really sure how or why they develop, or why fibroids occur again and again in one woman and not at all in another.

Although the cause of fibroids is unknown, many physicians believe that these tumors grow when the body responds abnormally to the female hormone estrogen. Others disagree. What definitely is known is that fibroids:

Do not occur before puberty, when the body does not release estrogen

Grow bigger when women take oral contraceptives, which contain estrogen

Grow rapidly during pregnancy, when the body produces extra estrogen

Shrink and even disappear as menopause approaches and the body gradually stops making estrogen

Rarely appear after menopause

Grow when women take estrogen supplements to make up for the lack of the hormone

Still, there are many who doubt that estrogen is solely responsible for fibroid tumors. Although fibroids develop in some women who have high levels of estrogen, laboratory tests performed for many women with these tumors show completely normal estrogen levels.

In addition, while fibroids tend to grow larger when a woman is pregnant, there is little scientific evidence to show that these tumors multiply during pregnancy. Some physicians believe that the increased blood supply that occurs during pregnancy may be the cause, since fibroids require a lot of blood to survive.

Stop Fibroids Review

The Stop Fibroids program has been able to help women with a wide range of symptoms caused by uterine fibroids. They only realize they have fibroids when they go for a gynecological exam, or ultrasound.

Most of the symptoms of fibroids are so minor that they are dismissed as regular period pains. This is because the most common symptoms of uterine fibroids (about 25%) have to do with menstruation.

Common Menstrual Symptoms Of Uterine Fibroids are:

abnormal bleeding, clotting or spotting (menstrual irregularities)

heavy bleeding (menorrhagia)

prolonged monthly menstrual flow

extreme pain during menstruation (dysmenorrhea).

Heavy, excessive, and/or prolonged menstrual bleeding can also lead to a condition known as iron-deficiency anemia, which must be treated with iron supplementation.

Pelvic pain, pressure and discomfort are also symptoms of uterine fibroids that can be dismissed as period pains.

Small fibroids can present little or no symptoms, but can grow and cause serious health complaints if left undetected.

For example, fibroids can cause the pelvic region to swell to the point of altering the physical appearance. Large fibroids can make a women look pregnant.

Large masses (or a single large mass) of uterine fibroids could be filling the abdominal area, obstructing other organs such as the bladder, colon, vagina, uterus and the nerves serving other parts of the body.

Frequent urination (or excessive urination) is caused by a large fibroid pressing on the bladder.Digestive complaints are also a result of fibroids blocking the intestines.

Fibroids can also cause painful sexual intercourse, or dyspareunia. Low back pain and/or pain in the legs are often due to uterine fibroids that are pushing towards the nerves in the back.

Your fibroids could be small at the moment, and easy to manage with natural remedies. Ignoring them could cause them to grow to the size of a cantaloupe melon, or multiply, making them more difficult to treat later on.

Fibroids are a common reason for infertility. For example, a fibroid blocking the fallopian tubes will prevent conception from ever taking place.

Your fibroid symptoms could be sabotaging your health and fertility, and the simple natural remedies in The Fibroid Alternative could so easily restore your health.

Fibroids and Pregnancy

Is pregnancy possible with fibroids? You will be given medicine to make you sleepy and relaxed. The procedure doesn't cause pain. The doctor (an interventional radiologist who is specially trained to do this procedure) will make a tiny cut in the skin in your groin area. Next, the doctor will pass a tiny tube called a catheter through an artery to your uterus. When the catheter is in place, the doctor will inject tiny particles into the catheter. These particles, made of plastic or gelatin sponge, are about the size of grains of sand. These particles move through the catheter into the arteries that send blood to the fibroid. The particles will stop the blood flow to the fibroid. Over time, the fibroid will shrink in size.

The ideal candidate for UFE is a post-fertility, premenopausal patient with symptomatic uterine fibroids who strongly desires to avoid hysterectomy. Although there is no fixed size limitation, patients with pedunculated subserosal fibroids are not considered ideal candidates. UFE may be a particularly attractive option for patients who wish to avoid the possibility of blood transfusions for health or religious reasons. Patients with a contraindication to general anesthesia might also benefit from UFE.

At this time, UFE is not commonly being performed on women who desire future fertility because its effects on fertility are unknown. In these patients, myomectomy is the traditional treatment, although adhesions following myomectomy may obstruct fertility. Depending on the size and number of uterine fibroids, a myomectomy procedure may not be indicated in some patients. In these patients, uterine fibroid embolization will allow uterine preservation.

There are several advantages. Usually, you only have to stay in the hospital one night after the procedure. You can return to your normal activities about a week after the procedure. This is a much shorter time compared with the 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. There's no significant blood loss. There's no big surgical incision. You don't need general anesthesia.

Click here to learn a new way to shrink uterine fibroids naturally.

Treatment of Fibroids

There are not any currently available medicines that will permanently shrink fibroids. Often heavy bleeding can be decreased with birth control pills. There are a number of medications in the family of GnRH agonists, which induce a temporary chemical menopause. In the absence of estrogen myomas usually decrease in size. Unfortunately, the effect is temporary, and the fibroids rapidly go back to their pre-treatment size when the medication is discontinued. Mifepristone, better know as the 'French abortion pill, or RU-486, also may cause a decrease in size of myomas, and often stops abnormal uterine bleeding. It also has undesireable side effects. It's use is promising, but it is not currently available in the United States.

Hysterectomy is surgical removal of the uterus. This treatment may be used in women with severe uterine fibroids who do not wish to have children. Hysterectomy may also include removing other parts of the female reproductive system, such as the cervix, ovaries, and fallopian tubes. The procedure may be performed vaginally (called vaginal hysterectomy) or through an incision in the abdomen (called abdominal hysterectomy). Following hysterectomy, most patients remain hospitalized for 3 to 5 days. Recovery from the procedure usually takes about 6 weeks.

Causes of Uterine Fibroids

The usual causes of uterine fibroids are pain or pressure in the abdomen, infertility in certain cases, heavy menstrual bleeding and changes in bladder, as well as in bowel movements.

Heavy Menstrual Bleeding

It may include longer periods of menstruation, clotting or flooding. However, an intense bleeding is not often the cause of uterine fibroids, but in case it is, then it is normally related with fibroids that grow inside a womb (also called as submucous).

While it is unknown as to why fibroids can be a cause for heavy bleeding, it is believed that they widen the womb's lining; therefore additional linings are to be shed.

Furthermore, heavy bleeding can result to anemia that will make you feel dizzy or worn-out. If you are anemic, it is highly recommended that you consume foods rich in iron. Talk to your physician about supplements with higher contents of iron.

Abdominal Pressure or Pain

Women who have fibroids will experience thigh and back pain, painful menstrual periods and continuous abdominal pressure that feels like swelling.

Bigger fibroids can expand the womb, making its size to increase significantly. In some cases, enough pressure on blood vessels and nerves can take place, resulting in an extreme pain. Moreover, a pressure on blood vessels can form varicose veins in the legs.

In rare cases, an immediate intense pain can be felt at the lower part of your back. It could be that a fibroid twists and cuts off the supply of blood. In this case, it is important to seek advice from a doctor.

Also, a painful intercourse can be a result of fibroids since they can press or hang through the cervix.

Bowel and Bladder Changes

Bigger fibroids that developed outside the womb (also called subserous) can press on the bowel or bladder, therefore resulting to:

-Frequent urination
-Leaking urine
-Immediate need to urinate
-Having a hard time to urinate
-Hemorrhoids
-Constipation
-Symptoms of Cystitis

Pregnancy or Infertility

In spite of having fibroids, successful pregnancies can still be experienced by a lot of women, but fibroids in particular areas can make giving birth difficult or it can result to miscarriage as they get in the way of birth or labor. A caesarian section may be suggested in case a fibroid blocks the womb's entrance. Also, fibroids may increase throughout pregnancy because of increased hormones, though it is not yet confirmed.

There are various causes of uterine fibroids and in case you are experiencing any of these, a visit to the doctor is recommended to determine if it is necessary to have the fibroids removed or an alternative fibroid treatment would be enough.

Uterine Fibroids Surgery & Alternative Options to Uterine Fibroids Surgery

There are many uterine fibroids surgery types. In this post I will go over the most common uterine fibroids surgery and at the end I will give you what I think is the best alternative to avoid undergoing an uterine fibroids surgery.

Uterine fibroids surgeries can be painful and do not guarantee that after having it done YOU will stop producing fibroids in your uterus. Here are the types of uterine fibroids surgery and how they work:

Uterine Fibroids Surgery 1. Hysterectomy - The most hated surgery for a woman!

A hysterectomy is an operation that is performed very often for women that suffer from uterine fibroids. During a hysterectomy, the uterus can be removed in whole or in part. The fallopian tubes and ovaries can also be extracted. A partial hysterectomy (or supracervical) is the removal of only the top of the uterus, leaving the cervix intact. While, a whole hysterectomy is the removal of all of the uterus.

Hysterectomy is the surgery that a women goes under to get rid of the uterine fibroids along with this organ (uterus). A woman that undergoes this surgery will never be able to concieve.

Uterine Fibriods Surgery 2. Myomectomy

Myomectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the uterine fibroids. In this surgery the uterus remains intact thus preserving fertility.

There are 3 types of myomectomy surgery, here they are:

Abdominal. Your doctor makes incisions in the abdomen and uterus to remove fibroids, then repairs the uterus and closes the incisions.

Laparoscopic. The doctor makes a 1 cm incisions in the abdomen where he inserts his surgical instruments. Then he makes another incision into the uterus to remove the fibroids, he repairs the uterus, and closes the incisions.

Hysteroscopic. This type of surgery does not involve any type of incisions, instead the doctor conducts an electric tool through the vaginal opening and extract the fibroids from the uterus.

Uterine Fibroids Surgery 3. Embolization

The embolization of uterine fibroids is a new way for uterine fibroids treatment. In this way the fibroid tissue dies, the masses shrink, and in most cases the symptoms are relieved. The embolization, which is done under local anesthesia, is much less invasive than open surgery to remove uterine fibroids. The procedure is performed by an experienced radiologist intervention, a physician specially trained to perform uterine embolization for fibroids and other similar procedures.

The embolization was used initially to reduce bleeding during the removal of uterine fibroids. It was discovered that after the embolization, while patients are awaiting surgery, the symptoms disappeared, and often the operation was not necessary. Often asymptomatic, they cause symptoms in about 25% of white and 50% of black women. Uterine fibroids often do not require treatment, but when they are problematic, they may be treated surgically or with medication - possible interventions include a hysterectomy, hormonal therapy, a myomectomy, or uterine artery embolization.

Fibroids Symptoms

Fibroid Tumor Symptoms - Did you know that many women with fibroids report having no symptoms. They only realize they have fibroids when they go for a gynecological exam, or ultrasound.

Uterine fibroids are common and occur in about 40% of women by the age of 40. Uterine fibroids are the most common pelvic tumors in women, occurring in approximately 30% of women over the age of 35. Although fibroids are benign (non-cancerous), they may produce a wide variety of symptoms including excessive bleeding leading to iron deficiency anemia, pain and pressure sensations, and even obstruction of the bowel or urinary tract. Uterine fibroids are nodules of smooth muscle cells and fibrous connective tissue that develop within the wall of the uterus (womb). Medically they are called uterine leiomyomata (singular: leiomyoma).

Uterine fibroids are benign tumors of muscle cells and fibrous tissue that form inside the uterus.

Fibroids may cause no symptoms, while in other women produce heavy vaginal bleeding and ?bulk symptoms? (pelvic pain, pressure on the bladder causing a sensation of fullness, lower back pain). Uterine fibroids contain fibrous tissue that's similar to the normal tissue of the uterus. They usually grow along the uterine wall, but sometimes they protrude into the cavity of the uterus or grow outside it altogether. Uterine fibroids are growths, made up of muscle cells and other tissues that grow in the wall of the uterus (or womb). Fibroids are sometimes called tumors, but they are almost always benign (not cancerous).

Women undergoing surgery experienced more major adverse events, most of which occurred before discharge. Embolization patients had shorter hospital stays and resumed normal activities sooner. Women whose close female relatives have fibroids are more likely to develop symptoms, suggesting that the cause is partly genetic. Fibroids are also much more common among African-American women - as many as 50 percent of African American women over the age of 35 have fibroids.
